The Klatskin-Sutker Discovery Fund provides an annual award of $25,000 to one or more primary investigators in the LSI to support research projects with high potential for transformative impact. Recipients are selected by an award committee and the LSI director based on the scientific excellence of their proposed projects, the potential for significant advancements in human health, and the degree of interdisciplinary collaboration involved.
Past projects funded by the Klatskin-Sutker Discovery Fund have included:
- Development of potent and selective inhibitors of TMPRSS2 to block coronavirus cell entry
- Targeting the melanocortin 4 receptor and inward rectifier kir7.1 potassium channel-signaling complex for the treatment of obesity and cachexia
- Do the trinucleotide expansions in Huntingtin (HTT) RNA alter structure and contribute to disease?
- Discovery of small molecules that modulate two-pore-domain potassium channels towards design of anti-inflammatory therapeutics
