Alexey Kondrashov
A native of the Russian Federation, Dr. Kondrashov came to the United States in 1990 as an Associate Visiting Scientist in the Department of Genetics at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He was also a Research Associate at the University of Chicago Department of Ecology and Evolution and at the University of Oregon - Eugene Department of Biology. In 1993, Dr. Kondrashov became Assistant Professor of Ecology & Systematics at Cornell University, and moved up to an Associate Professorship in 1996. At Cornell, Dr. Kondrashov was the primary investigator for the National Science Foundation grants researching "Evolutionary Genetics of Deleterious Mutations" from 1995-1998 and "The Effect of Relaxed Selection on Population Fitness" from 1996-1998.
In 1999, Dr. Kondrashov moved to Bethesda, Maryland as senior investigator for the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the National Institutes of Health. Here, he was the co-primary investigator for the NSF grant researching "Recessive Lethals in Wild Fish Populations" until 2002, when he became a consultant on the project.
